Hailed by Celebmix as “the next mainstream K-pop stars,” GHOST9 (consisting of members Junhyung, Shin, Kangsung, Junseong, Prince, Woojin and Jinwoo) has officially been announced today as the halftime show performers for UCLA Bruins’ home men’s basketball game against the Stanford Cardinal this Saturday, January 29.
With nearly 10,000 fans anticipated to be in attendance, Saturday’s game marks the return of an in-person audience for the UCLA Bruins – and in the midst of tension-filled conference play with the game weighing in on post-season tournament placements. The team is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)’s Pac-12, a collegiate league made up of 12 colleges in the Western United States, and currently ranks number 7 in the country. UCLA is one of the most decorated collegiate teams in history, winning a record total of 11 NCAA titles.
“As huge fans of basketball, we are absolutely speechless at the opportunity to be able to perform and cheer on one of our favorite collegiate teams,” says GHOST9, “We hope we can energize the crowd and help the Bruins finish strong in the game.”
2022 is already shaping up to be a breakout year for the GHOST9 members, who are currently meeting thousands of fans in four U.S. cities(Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Boston) for their first concert tour, <INTO THE NOW>. Displaying GHOST9’s diverse musicality in their first year after debut, the tour and its subsequent promotional activities will wrap later on this month, but have already hit milestones including sold out VIP concert tickets and fansigns with local fandom communities. Having debuted in September of 2020, GHOST9 is already proving to be a formidable force, generating nearly 50 million views across 5 music video releases and catching the attention of fans worldwide. Most recently, they wrapped up three-part mini-album series “NOW,” a colorful musical journey that explored the group’s artistry. “Up All Night,” a title track from the series, was named one of TIDAL’s “The Best of K-Pop” in 2021.
